HOPA, with the support of UN-WFP, continued its emergency response efforts in Kandahar, focusing on returnees at the Kandahar Transit Center (KTC) and Reception Center (RC). Throughout the week, 593 individuals received High Energy Biscuits (HEB), totaling 0.1779 metric tons. This intervention aimed to provide immediate nutritional support to vulnerable individuals, ensuring they had access to essential energy-dense food upon arrival.

In addition to food assistance, cash support was provided to 83 newly arrived returnee households in Kandahar under the AF01-2490 Returnees partnership agreement. Each household received direct financial assistance to meet their immediate needs, with a total disbursement of AFN 481,400 ($6,723.46 USD). This support played a crucial role in helping families transition and secure essential resources upon their return.

Meanwhile, HOPA also facilitated a large-scale food distribution in Panjwayi District, where 1,167 households received essential food items. Each household was provided with 50 kg of wheat flour, 4.6 kg of vegetable oil, 6.3 kg of split peas, and 1 kg of salt, contributing to household food security and nutritional stability. To further support vulnerable groups, 1,820 children received 1.75 metric tons of Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplement (LNS), while 1,102 pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBW) were provided with 5.24 metric tons of Super Cereal (WSB) to enhance maternal and child nutrition.

In Kandahar City, cash assistance distribution continued throughout the week, benefiting 4,991 households, each receiving AFN 2,900 to support their basic needs. Alongside cash support, targeted food assistance was extended to vulnerable populations. 6,458 children received 9.6894 metric tons of Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplement (LNS), and 2,391 pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBW) were provided with 7.7217 metric tons of Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) commodities to combat malnutrition and support maternal health.

HOPA’s interventions this week reflect a sustained commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting returnees and vulnerable communities in Kandahar. By providing both food and financial assistance, these efforts aim to enhance resilience and improve the well-being of affected families. The organization remains dedicated to ensuring that aid reaches those in need efficiently and effectively.
