Humanitarian Assistance for Refugee Returnees in Baramcha District, Helmand Province

In 2026, the Humanitarian Organization for the People of Afghanistan (HOPA) is implementing a comprehensive humanitarian assistance program specifically designed for refugee returnee populations in Baramcha District, Helmand Province. This intervention strategically targets households that have recently repatriated to the area, addressing their critical immediate needs during the challenging transition period following their return.

The program encompasses a multi-sectoral approach to humanitarian assistance, which includes the following key components:

  1. Food Distribution: Direct provision of essential food commodities to ensure household food security
  2. Cash-Based Assistance: Financial support enabling returnee families to meet their immediate and diverse household needs with dignity and choice
  3. Nutritional Support Programs: Specialized nutrition interventions targeting vulnerable groups, specifically:
  • Distribution of Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplements (LNS) for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition
  • Provision of Wheat Soy Blend (WSB) fortified food products to address nutritional deficiencies among women and children

These carefully designed interventions are implemented with the primary objective of addressing the immediate food security and acute nutritional needs of recently returned refugee households. The program aims to support these vulnerable families in stabilizing their living conditions, rebuilding their livelihoods, and enhancing their overall resilience during the critical post-return period when they are most vulnerable to food insecurity and malnutrition.
