As part of its staff capacity-building efforts, HOPA conducted a training session on Personal Safety and Security in Fieldwork on July 27, 2025, at the Main Office Conference Hall in Kandahar. The session was facilitated by Mr. Mohammad Rashid Anwary, Project Manager and senior Program team member at HOPA.

The training aimed to strengthen staff preparedness and awareness in managing personal and operational safety risks during fieldwork, particularly in high-risk areas where HOPA implements WFP-funded humanitarian assistance projects. The session emphasised key security practices through interactive discussions, real-life scenarios, and practical field examples.

Eighteen staff members from the Program, Logistics, MEAL, Security, and Administration departments actively participated in the session. Topics included risk identification, checkpoint protocols, travel preparedness, gender-sensitive approaches, incident reporting, and stress management.

Post-training assessments reflected a notable improvement in staff knowledge and confidence. Participants appreciated the contextual relevance of the content and valued the opportunity to learn practical strategies for field safety and personal well-being.

💬 “The examples shared from real distributions helped me think differently about my role in keeping our team safe,” said one participant.

“HOPA staff attending the Personal Safety and Security in Fieldwork training, focused on strengthening preparedness and risk management in high-risk operational areas.”

 Outcome:

All participants successfully grasped the importance of personal safety and operational security in fieldwork. The session strengthened their ability to identify risks, follow safety protocols, and respond appropriately in high-risk situations, contributing to safer and more effective humanitarian operations.
